Brrr.  Cold.  Cold.  Cold.  There is nothing between the southwest side of Block Island and Antarctica, and not that much from the northeast either.  So the wind could blow unobstructed and make these ridges into the snow.  That's an old farmhouse in the distance.  Imagine walking out there from school, I would guess for about 4 miles, from the middle part of the island, like the children used to do in the old days in the winter.  I don't think this picture would have been much different if it had been taken 80 years ago.  Brrr.
